Clinical Observation on the Renal Tuberculosis

Abstract
A clinical observation was made on 47 cases of renal tuberculosis in Department of Urology, Seoul Red Cross Hospital, during the period from 1975 to 1981.
The results were summarized as follows:

1 .The incidence of renal tuberculosis was 5.7% of all urological in patients and male to female ratio was 1.5:1. The most common age group was 20-39 years (61.7%).

2. The site of lesion showed right to left ratio of 45.2% to 36.6% and bilateral in 19.2% of cases.

3. Most frequent symptoms were those of vesical symptoms such as frequency, hematuria, painful urination.

4. Tuberculosis in other combined with genitourinary tract tuberculosis were such as pulmonary tuberculosis (52%), tuberculous epididymitis (16%), pleurisy (12%), spine tuberculosis (8%).

5. Excretory urographic findings in 47 cases of renal tuberculosis were nonvisualization (44.7%), calyectasis (29.8%), delayed visualization (25.5%), moth eaten appearance (19.2%) and contracted bladder (12.8%).

6. Cystoscopic findings showed active lesions of cystitis in 11 cases, deformed ureteral orifice in 6 cases and mucosal ulceration in 4 cases.

7. Patients were managed by chemotherapy only in 55.3%, chemotherapy with nephrectomy in 34% and chemotherapy with reconstructive surgery 21.2%.
